The Business Site-Visit Event
On the 27th of May 2023, nine students arrived at Soapan Santun's home workshop in Setia Alam, Selangor. The purpose of this site visit is to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the soap-making process, as well as practical insights into running a successful business—by allowing them to work hands-on and have a "feel" for how running a business actually works.
Warm Welcome and Workshop Tour
Anna and Louis, the co-founders of Soapan Santun, introduced themselves and started off the session by giving the children an insightful tour of their home workshop. The students explored different areas, including the production room, cure room, and other spaces within the home office, gaining a firsthand understanding of the working space in a home setting.
Safety Precautions and Demonstrations
Anna emphasized the precautions necessary when handling lye, a crucial ingredient in soap making. She conducted a thorough demonstration, showcasing the step-by-step process of crafting handmade soaps. It was crucial to emphasize the importance of lye safety, so Anna made sure to brief Eugene, the founder of Rich Hero, to inform the students to wear long sleeves, bring face masks, and wear gloves before the session commences.
Hands-on Soap Making
Divided into four groups, the students were paired up and assigned to adult facilitators for guidance. Under Anna's supervision and guidance, the young entrepreneurs started working hands-on in making soap. They mixed ingredients and poured their creativity into crafting unique soap creations.
Cutting and Curing
With their soaps complete, the students experienced the final stages of the soap-making journey. They took turns cutting the hardened soaps into bars. Excitedly, they carried their handmade creations to the curing room, where the soaps would cure for a month to create a harder, stable bar of soap. As the event drew to a close, a group photo along with the students' creations was captured.
In A Nutshell
The business site visit to Soapan Santun's home workshop, organized by Rich Hero Edu, was an exceptional opportunity for young students to explore the world of entrepreneurship. Through engaging demonstrations, hands-on soap making, and valuable insights from Anna and Louis, the students gained practical knowledge and inspiration to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
